A board of education (or school board) is a locally elected, or appointed, governing body responsible for overseeing a school district's operations. They provide a crucial link between the community and the school. They determine policy to be followed by the district, oversee funding, establish academic standards, hire superintendents, oversee the hiring of personnel and ensure a quality education.
Education has always been important to the members of the Brannick Riggs Family. Over the years family members have served on school boards in the various communities where they lived as follows:
Brannick Benjamin Riggs El Dorado School District 1899
Thomas Jefferson Riggs Bowie School District
Paul Riggs Elfrida School District
John B. Riggs St. Gregory College Preparatory School 1995-1996
